Known for its big, perfect and amazing waves, Praia do Norte is under the influence of the phenomenon “Nazaré Canyon”.
This is a rare geomorphological accident, the largest in Europe and one of the world’s largest, consisting of a failure on the continental plate with about 170 kilometers long and five kilometers deep.
The “Nazaré Canyon” channels Curl Atlantic Ocean to Praia do Norte, virtually unimpeded, creating waves with a size out of the ordinary compared to the rest of the Portuguese coast. A true playground for lovers of waves sports.
